-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Who are the "Friends of the Library"? The "Friends of the Woonsocket Harris Public Library" is a non-profit organization designed to stimulate community interest in library services and to support the library in providing these services. "Friends" are those citizens who regard the library as a vital information agency, a cultural center and a major educational institution. They know that a community is a better place in which to live if it has a first rate library. What do the "Friends" do? Through a program of volunteer, promotional, and fund-raising activities, they help to acquire important materials and equipment beyond the confines of the library's regular operating budget. They also aim to inform the community of the library's resources, services and needs. In the past, the "Friends" have funded passes to Capron Park Zoo, Ecotarium, Mashantucket Pequot Museum, Museum of Work & Culture, Plimoth Plantation, Providence Children's Museum, Roger Williams Park Zoo, and Slater Mill Historic Site. They have also purchased puppets, holiday books, and educational toys for the children's room, book trucks, new flags, bulletin boards, a VCR, a CD storage cabinet, book racks, and more. Goals of the "Friends" With your help the "Friends" hope to accomplish many goals. Among those may be: |
