Pauline V. THANK YOU, PAUL." Says, Pauline Lalonde. "I appreciate your help tremendously. This brings us a little closer to our goal."

"I think this is a good cause, and I am happy to assist you in creating a nicer atmosphere for the community in this way, and I CHALLENGE other businesses to follow suit. All you need is 10 more businesses at $1,000.00 each, and you're done. My best to you and your campaign. I'm sure you will reach your goal soon. There's a lot of good people out there, and I'm sure they want to help no matter the size of the donation." Says, Paul A. Bourget.

"Yes Paul, every bit, no matter how small, helps. Thank you again and may God Bless Us All."

We ask you also, please to remember us when you clean your attic, basement or spare room with items you no longer need such as, books, magazines, DVD's, CD's, VHS tapes, toys, games, and puzzles. Thank you for patronizing our sale area. We are also open to ideas and hope to hear some feedback.

A FRESH LOOK – A STEP FORWARD

The 'FRIENDS OF THE WOONSOCKET HARRIS PUBLIC LIBRARY", are announcing their campaign to raise funds in order to better assist the library, and also to enhance the interior of the facility.
We have consulted a contractor to build some bookshelves and a lighted Community display case, in the ongoing book sale area.
Items would be constructed with mahogany which is comparable to the interior of the library.
The new shelving would replace the miss matched table, desk, and cardboard boxes, that get shuffled around underneath them.
We would be able to display many more books and items, in a much neater setting in order to bring in more revenue for programs, passes, activities, and etc., for all ages, that are beyond the library budget.
Through a generous donation from, HERRICK & WHITE, the contractors, the committee has yet to raise $11,100., to reach our goal.
Anyone donating in support of this project, "your name, your company name, in memory of, or etc." will be proudly and publicly recognized within the library, depending on the level of your support.
In the event of exceeding our goal, the money, as always, is used solely for the library needs and programs.
Your donations are totally tax deductable. Donations are to be made out to , The Friends of the WHPL (Woonsocket Harris Public Library) and or we do have a "cash donation box" at the circulation desk. Your help is desperately needed, your consideration is deeply appreciated.
Please don't forget also to donate any new or gently used books, CD's, DVD's, VHS
tapes, games, puzzles, and toys, to help fill those shelves. New books, DVD's , and CD's are often kept for library lending, if needed, so your contributions are APPRECIATED.
The Friends are a group of dedicated volunteers who support and co-operate with the library in developing library services and facilities for "YOU" the community-our patrons.
Please watch for our "Silent Auction" in Feb. ending March 15th. Book sale dates are, May 17th, and fall book sale will be September 20th, . Mark your calenders, we hope to see you there.
THANK YOU,

The Friends of the WHPL.

With Hearts in Hand

Dr. Mohammed Arif has recently donated a defibrillator and workbooks to the Woonsocket Harris Public Library through the Friends of the Library. Captain Michael Crepeau, EMS Coordinator of the Woonsocket Fire Department will be instructing some employees of the library on this certification. Friends President Pauline Lalonde said, “Speaking on behalf of the library staff and the Friends, we all value our patrons and in the event of an emergency we hope to be able to make a difference. We thank Dr. Arif from the bottom of our hearts for making this possible.”

Who are the "Friends of the Library"?

The "Friends of the Woonsocket Harris Public Library" is a non-profit organization designed to stimulate community interest in library services and to support the library in providing these services.

"Friends" are those citizens who regard the library as a vital information agency, a cultural center and a major educational institution. They know that a community is a better place in which to live if it has a first rate library.

What do the "Friends" do?

Through a program of volunteer, promotional, and fund-raising activities, they help to acquire important materials and equipment beyond the confines of the library's regular operating budget. They also aim to inform the community of the library's resources, services and needs.

In the past, the "Friends" have funded passes to Capron Park Zoo, Ecotarium, Mashantucket Pequot Museum, Museum of Work & Culture, Plimoth Plantation, Providence Children's Museum, Roger Williams Park Zoo, and Slater Mill Historic Site.  They have also purchased puppets, holiday books, and educational toys for the children's room, book trucks, new flags, bulletin boards, a VCR, a CD storage cabinet, book racks, and more.

Goals of the "Friends"

With your help the "Friends" hope to accomplish many goals. Among those may be:

  • continue funding family passes to area parks and museums
  • sponsor special events and adult and children's programming
  • purchase books and software for the children's department
  • purchase furniture for the adult and children's departments
